The school, one of three high schools in Elgin, has a good IT infrastructure: in addition to computer rooms, every classroom has a networked computer and large display screen.

Elgin is a rapidly growing city, situated about 40 miles north-west of Chicago, in the Fox valley. It has a strong, mixed economy, which includes a broad range of manufacturing industries. Motorola are one of the largest local employers.
